Based Upon: The popular character published by Marvel Comics who first appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man" #129 in 1974, and has appeared in several incarnations in the nearly 30 years since (ThePunisher.com provides a comprehensive publishing history). The Punisher has been adapted to film once before, as a direct-to-video movie starring Dolph Lundgren in 1990 (which bore little resemblance to the comic book character other than his name). This film is intended to be the first of a new franchise of 'Punisher' movies, if it is successful.
