An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase.
In written English, we use abbreviations to shorten common sentences to save time.
ตัวย่อ คือ รูป(เขียน) ที่สั้นลงของคำหรือวลี
ในการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษ เราใช้คำย่อเพื่อทำให้ประโยคสั้นลงเพื่อประหยัดเวลา
This lesson will explain some common written abbreviations that are used in a business setting.
บทนี้จะอธิบายบางคำย่อที่ใช้เขียนกันทั่วไปในพื้นฐานธุรกิจนะคะ

So the Abbreviations in English is a shorten form of a word or a phrase.
ดังนั้นคำย่อในภาษาอังกฤษคือรูปย่อของคำหรือวลี
And we do that to save time when you're writing and sometime we use abbreviations for when we're speaking,too.
และเราทำอย่างนั้นเพื่อประหยัดเวลาตอนที่คุณเขียน และบางครั้งเราก็ใช้คำย่อตอนที่เราพูดด้วยเช่นกันค่ะ
So we gonna do 7 abbreviations and they're all use commonly in business setting.
ดังนั้นเราก็จะมาดู ตัวย่อ 7 ตัวกันนะคะ และทั้งหมดก็ใช้กันเป็นปกติในพื้นฐานธุรกิจค่ะ

Business English - 7 Common Workplace Abbreviations
1. ASAP or A - S - A - P = as soon as possible
2. RSVP = Please Respond
3. ATTN = Attention
4. CEO = Chief Executive Officer
5. No. = Number
6. N/A = Not Applicable
7. PR = Public Relations

So a first one is ASAP
เอาหละค่ะ ตัวแรกคือ ASAP
or A - S - A - P
หรือ A - S - A - P
 1. ASAP or A - S - A - P = as soon as possible โดยเร็วที่สุด
So, what's mean?
ดังนั้น ASAP หมายความว่าอย่างไรคะ
It means = as soon as possible
มันหมายความว่า = โดยเร็วที่สุด(เท่าที่จะเป็นไปได้)
so when we're speaking, somebody might say to you.
ดังนั้น เมื่อเรากำลังคุยกันอยู่ บางคนอาจพูดกับคุณว่า
"I need that report ASAP"
"ฉันต้องการรายงานนั้น ASAP "
They might also say
เขาอาจพูดอย่างนี้ก็ได้
"I need that report A - S - A - P"
"ฉันต้องการรายงานนั้น A - S - A - P"
It means the same thing.
มันมีความหมายเหมือนกันค่ะ
That mean, "I need that report as soon as possible."
นั่นหมายถึง "ชั้นต้องรายงานนั้นให้เร็วที่สุดค่ะ"
ASAP
Very very common.

2. RSVP = Please Respond = กรุณาตอบ
The next abbreviation is RSVP
ตัวย่อถัดมา คือ RSVP
And this stand for a french phrase which is "Repondez sil vous plait"
และคำนี้มาจากวลีภาษาฝรั่งเศสว่า "Repondez sil vous plait"
Which mean in English (You don't really need to know the French) = Please respond
ซึ่งในภาษาอังกฤษมีความหมายว่า (คุณไม่จำเป็นต้องรู้แบบฝรั่งเศสหรอก) = กรุณาตอบ
So RSVP means = Please respond
ดังนั้น RSVP มีหมายความว่า = กรุณาตอบกลับ นะคะ
People will generally not say to you RSVP.
ปกติแล้วคนจะไม่พูดกับคุณว่า RSVP
They would more than written invited, shown at the end of an email, at the end of an invitation.
เขามักจะเขียนเชิญ, ลงท้ายอีเมล, หรือตอนท้ายของหนังสือเทียบเชิญ
Usually, to a social event, people will ask you RSVP by phone, by email, by regular mail.
ปกติ สำหรับงานสังคม(หรืองานอีเว้นท์) เขาจะขอให้คุณตอบกลับ RSVP ทางโทรศัพท์,ทางอีเมล, หรือด้วยจดหมายธรรมดานะคะ
How they gonna want you to respond. And they say RSVP
แล้วแต่วิธีว่าที่เขาจะให้คุณตอบกลับ และเขาจะบอกว่า RSVP
And they asking you to respond and tell them weather or not you are attended the event.
และเขาจะถามคุณถึงคำตอบกลับ(ว่าจะมาร่วมงานมั๊ย) แม้คุณจะไม่มาร่วมงานก็ตาม
So RSVP
And the speaking conversation, sometimes someone might say to you...
และบทสนทนา บางครั้งบางคนอาจพูดกับคุณว่า ...
"Oh! You're going to someone's wedding, have you RSVP ? = have you let them know that you are attend or not ?"
"โอ้! คุณกำลังจะไปร่วมงานแต่งของใครบางคน (คุณ RSVP รึยัง =) คุณตอบกลับเค้าไปหรือยัง = คุณแจ้งให้เค้าทราบหรือยัง ว่าคุณจะไปงานมั๊ยหรือไม่ไป?"
3. ATTN = Attention = เรียน
The next one is not use in spoken English.
อันต่อมา ไม่ใช้ในภาษาพูดภาษาอังกฤษนะคะ
But you will see this a lot, especially on faxes in a workplace.
แต่เธอจะเห็นได้บ่อย โดยเฉพาะในแฟกซ์ในที่ทำงาน
And what's this (ATTN) stand for is attention
และ (ATTN) ย่อมาจาก attention = ความสนใจ
and what's it mean?
และความหมายคืออะไรหรอคะ?
It's for example, what's you see is something like that
ตัวอย่างนะคะ, ที่คุณเห็นคืออะไรอย่างนี้ค่ะ
ATTN: Joe Smith
what's that mean? Is that the fax?
ความหมายคืออะไรหรอคะ? นั่นคือแฟกซ์หรอคะ?
It's the address to Joe Smith
มันคือ ให้ส่งให้ Joe Smith น่ะค่ะ
It's for his attention, and you should forward the fax to him.
มันคือสำหรับ Joe Smith และคุณควรส่งต่อแฟกซ์ไปให้เขา
So ATTN = Attention
And you'll always see in Capital Letters.
และคุณก็มักจะเห็นในรูปอักษรตัวพิมพ์ใหญ่นะคะ
4. CEO = Chief Executive Officer = ประธานกรรมการบริหาร
The next one is an important one.
อันต่อมา สำคัญนะคะ
It's CEO.
มันคือ CEO
And what's CEO means ?
และ CEO หมายความว่าอะไรคะ?
It is a Chief Executive Officer
มันคือ Chief Executive Officer = ประธานกรรมการบริหาร
So CEO
ดังนั้นซีอีโอ
The Chief Executive Officer is the boss of the company.
ประธานกรรมการบริหาร คือ หัวหน้าของบริษัท
The chairperson of the company, usually boss.
ประธานของบริษัท ปกติคือ หัวหน้า
You say "My company's CEO"
คุณพูดว่า ประธานกรรมการบริหารของบริษัทชั้น
And you pronoun like that "C-E-O" not "Cee- O"
และคุณออกเสียงว่า "ซี-อี-โอ" ไม่ใช่ "ซี-โอ" นะคะ

5. No. = Number = "เลขที่"
The next thing you might see in the work place is this
สิ่งต่อมา ที่คุณอาจเห็นในที่ทำงานคือ
"No."
And it doesn't mean "NO!" as the opposite of "YES".
และมันไม่ได้หมายถึง "NO!" ที่ตรงข้ามกับ "YES" นะคะ
It's means number.
มันหมายถึง "เลขที่" ค่ะ
So, you might see something like this "No.1"
ดังนั้น คุณอาจเห็น อะไร เช่นนี้ "No.1"
N-o-1 = Number One = same meaning with this "#1" or this, just = 1
เลขที่ - 1 = เลขหนึ่ง = ความหมายเหมือนกันกับอันนี้ "# 1" หรือนี้ ตัวเดียว = 1
(No.1 = #1 = 1 )
When we're express this way "No.1"
เมื่อเราเขียนว่า "No.1"
Like I said, it's means number
เหมือนที่ชั้นพูดไปแล้ว มันหมายถึง ตัวเลข
and not "NO" , not the opposite of "YES"
และไม่ใช่ "NO!" ไม่ใช่ที่ตรงข้ามกับ "YES" ค่ะ
6. N/A = Not Applicable = ระบุไม่ได้
Alright.
เอาหละค่ะ
N/A
So an expression written in English "N-Slash-A"
และการเขียนเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ว่า "N-Slash-A"
But we just say "N-A"
แต่เราพูดว่า "N-A"
And what's it means is = "not applicable."
และความหมายมันคือ = "ระบุไม่ได้"
Applicable = adjective สามารถใช้งานได้
เหมาะสม ประยุกต์ได้
ใช้ประโยชน์ได้ ใช้สอยได้
So, in general conversation, you wouldn't say...
ดังนั้น, ในบทสนทนาทั่วไป คุณจะไม่ใช้พูดนะคะ...
if someone ask you a question, and it wasn't an applicable question.
ถ้ามีคนถามคำถามคุณ และมันไม่ใช่คำถามที่จะระบุได้
You wouldn't just say N/A
ไม่ใช่คุณจะพูดว่า N/A นะคะ
It's more something that we use in written English
(คือ) เราใช้ในการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษ มากกว่าน่ะค่ะ
So for example,

you're filling that questionnaire.
คุณกรอกแบบถามคำถาม
And it said,
และมีว่า
Married Status: Single/Married
สถานภาพสมรส : โสด/สมรส
You check Single
คุณตอบโสด
and they say
และคำถาม มีว่า
Name of Spouse ________________
ชื่อของคู่สมรส ________________
Well, if you're not married, you'll write
ซึ่งถ้าคุณไม่ได้แต่งงาน คุณจะเขียนว่า
N/A
= Not Applicable
= ระบุไม่ได้ ค่ะ
7. PR = Public Relations = ประชาสัมพันธ์
Alright, the last abbreviation is PR
เอาล่ะค่ะ ตัวย่อตัวสุดท้าย คือ PR
And what PR stand for is = Public Relations.
และพีอาร์ก็ย่อมาจาก = ประชาสัมพันธ์
So the public Relations department is responsible for the flow of information between the company and the general public.
ดังนั้น แผนกประชาสัมพันธ์เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบต่อการรับส่งข้อมูลระหว่าง บริษัท และประชาชนทั่วไป
And sometimes you will say
และบางครั้งคุณจะกล่าวว่า
"The Public Relations Department"
"แผนกประชาสัมพันธ์"
But it's more common to hear people say
แต่มันก็ปกติมากๆ ที่จะได้ยินคนพูดว่า
"The PR Department" or
"แผนกพีอาร์" หรือ
"The people that work in PR" =
"คนที่ทำงานในพีอาร์" =
"The people that work in Public Relations"
"คนที่ทำงานในแผนกประชาสัมพันธ์"
And it's express in writing like this
และในรูปการเขียน เขียนอย่างนี้ค่ะ
"Capital P" "Capital R"
"พีตัวใหญ่" "อาร์ตัวใหญ่"
Or by saying "P-R" not by saying "PeRR!!"
หรือโดยพูดว่า "พี-อาร์" ไม่ใช่ "เพอรร์"
"P-R"
So Public Relations
ก็คือ ประชาสัมพันธ์
