ขอลองอธิบายด้วยคน 
(ขอยืมประโยคตัวอย่างจากคุณนายชัยนะคะ)
This book is worth 30 pounds.
=> This book is worth more than 30 pounds.
เมื่อใช้ worth เป็น adjective - worth ต้องตามด้วย noun, pronoun, gerund
หรือ จำนวนตัวเลขเสมอ ไม่สามารถใช้โดดๆ ได้ อย่างเช่น This book is worth. = ผิด
แล้วทำไม This book is worth more than 30 pounds. ได้ล่ะ
ก็เพราะว่าจริงๆ แล้ว worth ตามด้วย 30 pounds ดังในตัวอย่าง
ส่วน more than นั้น เป็นตัวขยาย 30 pounds ให้รู้ว่าราคามันมากกว่า 30 pounds
ในขณะเดียวกัน เราก็สามารถพูดได้ว่า
This book is worth less than 30 pounds.
ในขณะที่ beautiful สามารถใช้โดดๆ ได้ อย่างเช่น You are beautiful.
=> You are more beautiful than ......
ถ้าเข้าใจไม่ผิด more than ในประโยค worth นั้น
more จะทำหน้าที่เป็น determiner ในขณะที่ than
เป็น preposition (อย่างเช่น all of, some of)
แต่ในประโยค more beautiful than นั้น more ทำหน้าที่เป็น adverb
