These two boys were busy searching for coins or other lost valuables in a small canal beside a sidewalk when I ran into them. They must have been standing in that water for a while - they were soaked through.
I don't know if they found anything of value - perhaps items that other people had accidentally dropped. The loss must have brought sorrow to the owner, probably as much as it would bring delight to the people who unexpectedly find it.
The two boys might not have found any precious commodities in the murky water, but from the look on their faces, I could see clearly the joy of childhood, of being worry-free and finding blissful fun even in the simplest of pleasures.
Some people lost that treasure along the way to adulthood. Alas, it is often never found again.
